Enjoy Wimbledon with doXtop

by blogadmin on 7/3/2009 11:35:00 AM

Wimbledon is the highlight of the international tennis calendar. This famous championship is at its 2009 ending stage, with final matches being scheduled for this weekend.

Before you set yourselves before TVs to watch, we assume, Federer taking one more title, as well as another epic grand-slam clash between the Williams sisters, you might take a short walk through the history of the white sport in an interesting document which is to be found on doXtop. It is called Pictorial history of tennis and it`s published by our member petrol. The document is very well illustrated and it`s brief but rich in information about tennis champions. It ends with a back photo of, we think, Anna Kournikova, but we are not 100% sure.

While on topic, there is a short but quality illustrated list of The most beautiful female tennis players in our archive. We think It`s really hard to put in question autsajder`s choice.

Another fine read about the ongoing grand slam tour is Wimbledon tennis championship 2009, with adjacent comment about its technical innovation in a document called Wimbledon central court roof.

In case you play tennis even only for recreation, make sure you do not develop a painful condition called Tennis elbow, described in a document published some time ago by our member oliver.

Enjoy the Wimbledon finals!

Summer holiday tips

by blogadmin on 7/1/2009 7:49:00 AM

In case you are stil undecided about where to spend this summer holiday, here are some ideas and tips from our vast archive. Once again, we are expecting hot summer time, with soaring temperatures, which is why we are concentrating on seas, not mountains, or country side touring.

Our member Paranoid Android seemed absolutely sane when he published one of the most beautiful photo collection on doXtop to date called Beaches of the World. It`s an astonishing set of images from the most exotic sea resorts of the world, from Polynesia to Thailand and Seychelles. If money is not an issue, you`ll have a hard time choosing one of these destinations.

Another excellent document, containing descriptions and photos of European seaside resorts is called Best beaches in Europe and it was published by doXtop member trackmaster. It`s a fine collection of destinations picked and described with passion and sensitiveness.

Last but not least interesting is a short, first-hand trip report form our member hammond, who just came back from his summer holiday and published the impressions and photos in a document called Summer holiday in Croatia. Great stuff to read and watch.

DoXtop as extranet for cross company collaboration

by Miroslav on 6/12/2009 7:13:00 AM

We have recently presented you with our latest feature called doXtop team sites and here is a little reminder on the matter we are quite proud of.

With our team sites feature, users can apply doXtop in shortest time as external net for cross company collaboration on projects. For example, when people from different companies, organizations or any kind of business work on projects - they need to work together on documents and review, edit or expand content. Since they are situated in different locations - from streets and cities to countries and continents – their joint work is not supported by any system and they have to rely on endless e-mailing, phone calls, faxing and other forms of formal communication.

It is possible to set up an extranet and allow people to access and change data of mutual interest, but it is usually avoided in entities such as companies due to security reasons, or simply because it takes too much time and resources. True, it is also possible to use external systems such as well known social networking sites, but they do not offer adequate document management and collaboration options, which is understandable considering their entertaining and time-consuming orientation.

This is where doXtop steps in, offering what is needed for work on cross company projects. Of course, when we say “company”, take it in the widest possible meaning. It can relate to academic organizations, educational institutions, NGOs, branched businesses or societies – joint engagements of any sort.

1.  People from all over the world can collaborate on same documents through doXtop team sites.

2.  These documents can be easily uploaded, shared, edited and even versioned on our site.

3.  Documents can be published as public, private, or into Magazines, or not at all if needed so. You can only exploit our team sites feature as a tool to develop your document and then use it elsewhere. If your documents are published on doXtop - they are also automatically converted into Flash PDF or other formats. This means that readers who do not have the tools of the authors – thus cannot read the source file - now can easily read the content, its working editions and final specification.

4.  Team sites and their content are safe and protected on doXtop in a way which makes it possible to define who is allowed to access a team site, who is only a reader, an author and so on.

By using doXtop team sites, you and your colleagues can work on joint projects, documents and content creation, while sharing information with ease without technical limitations or unnecessary supervision.

Why and how to quit smoking

by Miroslav on 6/8/2009 12:31:00 PM

On World No Tobacco Day, UN have recently called for stamping out smoking in workplace to protect people from second-hand fumes. Tobacco is the second major cause of death worldwide, and it will kill half of the 650 million people who smoke regularly, the World Health Organization says.

The doXtop archive is filled with documents from which you can learn a lot on this subject, whether you`re a smoker trying to quit, or a second-hand fumes inhaler wanting to learn about the risks and damage to his/her health.

Beyond smoking kills is a document published by our member nikita. This report marks the tenth anniversary of the initiative to protect children and sets out an agenda for action for the decade to come. It`s a quality content based on a research funded by Cancer Research UK and British Heart Foundation.

If you still have doubts about how dangerous your smoking habit is, you might have a look into document brought to us by oliver, which explains that You can quit smoking. Smoking harms almost all organs of the body, as shown in a plastic and scary way in a document called Nicotine Vaccine.

Read more about the subject here.

OpenID Login on doXtop

by Miroslav on 6/3/2009 12:41:00 PM

As of today our users can enjoy the benefit of OpenID login on our publishing site. This enables you to sign in to different web sites, including doXtop, with a single URL that you own, whether it`s your homepage or blog. It can also be provided by a web site which you use.

The best part is, if you use services of AOL, Google, MySpace, Yahoo, Flickr, Blogger, LiveDoor, LiveJournal, Orange (France Telecom), SmugMug, Technorati, Vox, or WordPress.com - it means you already have the URL and you can use it on doXtop right away.

OpenID eliminates the need for multiple usernames across different websites. In this case, it simplifies your experience with our site, because you don't have to remember a separate password for doXtop if you choose to login with your OpenID. You can also use your OpenID to register a new doXtop account – it is easier and faster than before.

You can use this option by clicking the Login with OpenID in the upper right menu and providing your OpenID URL.

Airbus planes and technology

by Miroslav on 6/1/2009 12:52:00 PM

An Air France airliner carrying 228 people from Brazil to Paris vanished over the Atlantic today after flying into turbulence, with little hope of finding any survivors. Apart from an accident during a 1994 test flight which claimed seven lives, the popular A330 airliner has suffered no major accidents.

The doXtop archive contains useful readings about the Airbus flagship planes and their technology. These planes have been proven as reliable and here is an insight into complex, state of the art systems which drive these wonderful machines high into the sky and above seas and mountains.

In Airbus - company analysis, published by our member lucy, find out about how Airbus was created as European company to compete worldwide against the United States’ Boeing. The Airbus FlyByWire document, brought here by fred, explains the control system implemented on Airbus series A320, A330 and A340 and how it differs from conventional aircraft control such as that found on Boeing B737, B747 and the latest B777.

Finally, the Airbus A380, the largest passenger jet ever built, is presented in a document published on doXtop by our member HAL.  Here you can read about the development, challenges and success in creating a technological wonder of the modern civilization.

Human rights and liberty contributions

by Miroslav on 5/29/2009 5:34:00 AM

Global economic downturn has had a major impact on human rights records all over the world, according to the new Amnesty International report. In this document, published by our member trackmaster, you can read in details about the state of human rights and their abuse worldwide. You can find your own country inside the report and see how are things seen from the perspective of the world`s leading human rights advocating organization.

While on topic, you might also check other interesting documents from doXtop`s  growing archive. For example, take a look at Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, presented by our member Perry Rhodan.

Human rights go hand in hand with religious freedom. Here you can find the latest annual review on this issue by the U.S. State Department. True, it is a governmental report and it should probably be taken with a grain of salt, but still it offers a thorough insight on the matter.

Finally, after considering the actual situation in countries all over the world, you may read an academic analysis about three concepts of liberty and be inspired to respect and value your own state and freedom more. Or less.

There`s plenty of text to scroll about in these documents, so don`t forget to use our clever table of contents for flash on the left side of each document.

Nuclear crisis coverage

by Miroslav on 5/27/2009 5:47:00 AM

As if the world needed yet another crisis after global economic downturn and swine flu outbreak, we are witnessing a major security problem on Korean peninsula, with possible global implications. With strong condemnations pouring in from all over the world after another North Korean nuclear test and news about growing exchange of threats between the communist regime and world powers, here on doXtop you may find interesting readings about the roots and possible outcome of the ongoing crisis.

You could start with chronology of the U.S.–North Korean nuclear diplomacy, in a document published by our member trackmaster and then take a look into an expert`s analysis of the North Korea’s nuclear weapons program to 2015, submitted bu cowbell.

Iran is another country involved in global nuclear and missile proliferation affair and you can find excellent readings on this topic in doXtop`s digital library. Take a look at joint threat assessment by U.S. and Russian technical experts or an independent suggestion of a new political approach in dealing with the Islamic Republic.

You will complete your crash course in history of the ongoing crisis by reading about nuclear missile delivery capabilities in emerging nuclear states, brought by our member paola.

Facelift for your Facebook

by blogadmin on 5/22/2009 12:29:00 PM

Millions of people are using Facebook on daily basis, creating connections in ways which are being reinvented round a clock. DoXtop offers you a chance to be original, a little bit different while communicating with your Facebook friends.

You can enrich your submissions by embedding doXtop based documents in your comments, giving them more life and stronger, fuller expression. Sometimes a fine document alone is a comment strong enough.

And you are not limited to documents only – you can include entire doXtop based magazines in your comments on Facebook with a simple, one-click command.  The software will automatically pick and include the front page photo and abstract text of a related magazine, so it`s no hard work for our users.

Of course, it can be a magazine which belongs to you, the one you are running with your doXtop friends, or just a magazine which you like and feel it deserves a bit more promotion elsewhere.
