doXtop - what's coming next?

by blogadmin 8/23/2008 11:16:00 AM

Since our public release 1 in June 2008 we spent most of our time with bug fixing, fine tuning, performance optimization and improvements of usability and basic functionality of doXtop. There's still a lot to do - but we guess doXtop has a status now - which allows us to  begin with  the development of the next major release which we plan for late autumn this 2008. Here are the highlights for the rest of the year:

Major release functions

SharePoint Connector

We will provide a SharePoint connector for doXtop. This will allow us to open the actual "hidden" document management and collaboration functionality for the  doXtop community. We will offer features like

*       Check out / check in of documents

*       Versioning

*       Teamwork and collaboration on documents

*       Peer to peer reviews and approval processes

*       Automated publishing of approved documents from team sites and documents libraries

We plan to provide functions to create team sites for non SharePoint users online and we later want to support users with existing SharePoint sites as well.

Open Social

We are working on the implementation of the open social standard in doXtop. Support of this standard will enable users

*       to effortless register in doXtop and

*       to easily publish with the doXtop services in the background seamlessly into any Web 2.0 application - that supports the open social standard

Personalization

A third big point on our release list is the personalization of doXtop. We plan to enhance the user profiles and allow members  to define interest categories. Based on these data doXtop will present individually selected and personally matching publications for each member.

Minor release functions

We usually launch 1 new doXtop release per week with minor improvements. In the next months our focus will be on:

Improved flash presentation

We plan to support hyperlinks, integrated a table of content and possibly integrated advertisement options.

Usability

We have a long list of point to further improve the usability of doXtop.

Robustness

And as it is with software - we will continue working on the robustness and stability of doXtop.

Outlook

Open business platform for content

In 2009 we plan to go one step further and turn doXtop into an open business platform for any type of content. We will allow users to publish their valuable content and earn money with it. We will provide

*       an open API to create your own magazines & sites[1]

*       magazines sample code

*       payed content framework and payment system

Language support

We also plan to implement a language layer to support major world languages

So dear user - you see - there's a lot of enthusiasm here in our team - and also a lot of work in the pipeline. Sorry that it all takes so long - but is it more complicated and difficult as it looks. And as we are only a very little team with limited resources we can do only one job after the other.

So stay with us - tell your friends about doXtop - and publish your content with our platform.

We appreciate your membership and your feedback

Your doXtop team

[1] We have this API already today and the  doXtop magazines are based on it. If you want to evaluate or use  the possibilities within a pilot or joint venture - please contact us.
